Wow, two serious posts in one week! What is this?

But really, taking a moment to discuss something important.

One of my closest friends, Celeste has a fundraiser for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) this coming Sunday at WaaZuBee Cafe on Commercial Drive. It’s going to be a night of live music and good company while learning a little bit more about ALS, which is more popularly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

ALS is a neuro-muscular disease where the muscles of the body slowly degenerate but not the mind. You becoming progressively paralyzed; it’s like being trapped inside your own body. No one knows what causes ALS and at the moment. At the moment, there isn’t a cure for it but yet it’s the most common neurological death in Canada.

The reason Celeste decided to take this on and organize this fundraiser is because of her friend Mike, who I affectionately refer to as “Ging” (cuz he’s a Ginger kid!). Mike’s mom had ALS. Their family made a goal to raiser $4,000 for ALS research, unfortunately, they only made it to $3,600 before his mom’s condition became very serious. Impacted by Mike’s story, Celeste decided that she wanted to help them make it to the $4,000 goal, and possibly even exceed that if she could.

In an ideal world, Mike’s mom would have lived to see what she’s inspired in others but unfortunately she passed away last week. Celeste has decided to push through with the fundraiser to honour Mike’s mom, and I know I’ll be there to support her.

So once again,
